London Marathon

Hi All,
I haven't posted on here for a while, tho I read it almost every day - and, as others have been saying over the last couple of days, this website (and the Children With CML site) are my lifelines. There is understanding and sanity to be found in abundance when the days are difficult. Thank you to all who keep it online and available and are able to offer such thoughtful advice and insight.

We are now heading towards a BMT for Rio (14), which has been a complex decision and a long journey. It's not over yet - in fact it's just beginning!

My brother is a keen runner and was thrilled to get a place in the London Marathon this April 13th. He wanted to run for a leukaemia-related charity and chose CLIC Sargent, mainly because we have had excellent support from a Social Worker funded by them and also because when Rio has his BMT, we will be able to use a CLIC Sargent house near the Hospital for the duration of the treatment.

If anyone wishes to sponsor him - perhaps because CLIC Sargent has helped you - we would be thrilled. He still needs more support to reach his target!!

The website is: www.justgiving.com/pj-marathon

Thanks and very best wishes to all you CMLers and your families and friends out there.

Hi Kestral,
I am sure this has been such a hard decision for you and Rio to make and I understand the complex emotions surrounding it. I too struggled with the transplant question from the beginning as I had a very good sibling donor match, but eventually the decision was made for me by the fact that I developed a mutation and became resistant to Glivec (dasatinib/nilotinib was not available at that time)

I hope this group can continue to offer support over the coming weeks and months for both you and -through Jayne's children with CML forum - for Rio.
Where will Rio be treated?

best wishes to you,
Sandy

Hi Kestrel

Just to wish you lots of luck with Rio's transplant, I am sure that it was a very hard decision to get to this point and I think once the decision is made it does become a little easier.

I hope that is as straight forward for Rio as it has been for me.

It will be hard for you to watch him but I wish you strength. Please let us know how it is going.

Susan
