hI hope everyone is fine, I Just wondered how often people are going to the hospital to see their consultant and how often should we have a pcr test. At present although I they cannot detect the cml on my tests I am going to see my consultant every 8 weeks and having a pcr test done 2 weeks prior to the visit, is this the norm sue d
You are here
how often should we have a pcr and hospital visits
hey sue
I have a pcr test every 3 mounths and they do a bone marrow asperate at the same time. When i go through this procedure i have a general anasthetic. When i recover from that i have a drink and something to eat and then go home but last time i had a drink and something to eat and we were going to go home but i was feeling faint so they kept me in for a few hours more. But normaly when i have a PCR and a BMA its all good.

Hi Sue,
depending on how long you have been on therapy and how stable your counts are it is normal to have PCR's done every 3 months. It usually take 4 weeks for me to get the results of the test so I try and time my appt. so that the result will be through.
I also think that most places only give BMA every 12 months or even only if there is some anomaly with the pcr and they want to check the cytogenetics from the marrow and compare with the peripheral blood PCR result.

I have a PCR every 6 months, with a FBC every three months. Never had a BMA for years now.
I'm PCR negative, but not undetectable.
Hello
I am happy, as I have gone from having a Bone Marrow Aspirate every six months, to not having one for over a year, but PCR done at every visit, so about every six weeks.
Funny how various treatment regimes differ from place to place, still as long as the end result is the same ??
Have fun and keep smiling
