BCR ABL RESULTS

Hi Everyone,

I have a quick question, the doctor posted by BCR ABL results to me today and I was slightly unerved to read them. I have had a good decrease each test (diagnosed April last year)
But when I got the results today they went from BRC-ABL count of 6 which is .039 up to a count of 18 which is .044 now in my mind that is a 3 fold increase?

Is this considered high? Does this mean that it is on its way up and I am losing reaction to the Glivec? I called the haemo today and was told that this was nothing to worry about it is not a signifigant increase but to me it seems so, or am I making to much of this?

Does the BCR ABL sometimes flucuate up and down? I was hoping for it to go down and get to zero so was so disheartend when I saw the results, especially because I feel lousy already on the glivec at 400mg I cannot imagine having to increase the dose.

I would love replies.

Thanks

Hi Bill

I know how you feel - my last PCR rose from 0.1 to 0.5 and I too had a panic. I was told by Dr Ho that the increase was not large enough to be significant. I am now waiting for the results of a bone marrow biopsy to come in and hopefully indicate it was just a blip.

I really believe you have nothing to worry about.

Hi Bill,
the difference between .039 and .044 is negligible and as your doctor says is really not significant. It is not a reduction it is really just about the same result.
Hopefully your next result will show a fall with another zero... i.e .009 or something similar.
These are tiny numbers... do not worry.

I am so sorry you are feeling bad with the side effects.... let us know exactly what you are experiencing just in case one of us can suggest a way of dealing with it.

best wishes,
Sandy

My PCR test got me spooked when it went in the wrong direction, even though it was only a tiny increase from .23 to .26 but when they did the next one it was going back down in the right direction again and is now .16 so hopefully yours will do the same.

All the best Apryl
