Glivec - cml & skin

Has any one experienced problems which my wife has been for a little while (now approx 5 years after dx, on Glivec 400mg for 1 year, 600mg for 3+ years).
My wife (Anne) feels that her skin is quite 'fragile' i.e. if she hits her arm on a hard object even quite lightly, she finds that the skin breaks quite easily, leaving wounds which will eventually heal.
I don't recall anyone posting with this problem in the past.

My wife (Denise) has the same problem. Even quite gentle knocks leave a wound that takes some time to heal. She was diagnosed nearly 4 years ago and is currently on 400mg of Glivec. Her skin has also become more sensitive to the sun. She puts it down to the medication but we have not seen it mentioned before either.

Paul,

You are definitely not alone. A number of people, including myself, find that their skin breaks easily or bruises easily. This seems to be due to thinning of the skin. I found a reference to this at: http://www.gistsupport.org/for-new-patients/managing-side-effects.php

I am not aware of any long term issue from this, as long as you are careful. However with all persistent effects, it is worth checking with your doctor during a regular check up.

Best wishes,
Bill

Good Morning all

18months 600mg

Yes - even though I do not think my skin has thinned
- more that it looks like it has lightened.

I have had several types of skin issues.

Blood Blisters
Quite often if I knock myself or get a splinter etc - will get blood blisters which take sometime to heal.

Shingles
Every now and again

Rashes
At one time I was getting non-itchy hives that I no longer get

Recently - I had very itchy hands and feet that at times would go red. Not at present.

Sun
Yes - I have quite olive skin - but now burn easily even though I never did prior to CML or taking glivec.
This is even with all the slip, slop, slap on - lotions, hats, long sleeves, sunnies etc. Have to be careful

I haven't mentioned previously as it just seemed my lot
but you are not alone that is for sure with skin problems.

Cheers
Sue
