Whilst many of us ladies on gleevic have suffered with heavy periods, some consultants are saying its due to the gleevic along with early menopause symtoms my consultant says that it could be the platelets that are causing heavy bleeding and that even with a stable and great platelet count of around 243 for the last 3 years that the platelets might not be working properly. This is not the first time she has told me this and today my heamotolgy nurse told me the same. Has anyone else heard of this? I do think it may be true in a way, it could explain why many of us still bruise easily and don't heal very quickly if we cut ourselves. So can anyone else find info on whether our platelets are working properly or not. If so should we all be aware of this male or female I've only been told about this due to womens problems but does it affect us all on gleevic. Advise and Views on this subject thanks

Can I post this to our talkbackchat group Leukamia group in Australia. Will not add your name. Just the content.
Heaps of women are having hormone problems and my personal experience is that I nearly bled out and had to have an emergency hysterectomy. Specialists & Gyno Surgeon thought it was a combination of CML and Glivec but never said anything about platelets. I also get heaps of blood blisters.
Maybe able to get further feedback.

Thanks for authorisation
Will paraphrase and see if we can get heaps of further responses.
I posted One for the Gals - and the responses came out fo the woodwork - so it is an issue for all of us.

Further information on hormones and combination of platelets and impact from glivec would be extremely useful
Suggestion
If any of the information is a useful tool for yourself
then print-out and take to your specialist for his comments and maybe further research
Thanks
