Baby girl

Hi,

hope everybody is well!

with great pleasure I announce the birth of my second baby girl, Hannah Sophie. 3 weeks early but completely healthy! Another interferon miracle. As with my first daughter (born in 2006), I came off Gleevec and went on interferon until giving birth. Within six weeks of giving birth, my PCR is back at 0.54.

I feel very blessed to have two wonderful daughters despite having CML since 2001.
My family is now complete! We cannot believe our luck.

With my very best wishes

Sharon

Dear Sharon,
congratulations on the birth of another lovely daughter. This news... and your story... will give encouragement to many others I am sure.

wishing you much happiness,
love,Sandy

How lovely to hear about another much wanted baby. I was diagnosed with CML when 8 weeks pregnant 3 yrs ago. I went on to have a healthy baby boy while taking interferon. I would love a brother or sister for my little boy but my consultant is not keen. My last PCR was 0.35 on Gleevec. Would it be too personal to ask what reading you had prior to your latest pregnancy and what advice were you given.
Congratulation again ,Denise x

Hi Denise,

Hope you and your little boy are well!

I have to admit my consultant was not keen when I said I wanted another child. I came off Gleevec at my own risk. My PCR was around 0.8 I think. During my first pregnancy, I stayed in CCR, but this time my PCR rose to 6%. Luckily, it has gone down again withinn six weeks of taking Gleevec agian to 0.54%.

I can't breastfeed because of Gleevec but my baby seems very happy on formula.

Its a difficult decision to make - the worries of CML or the joys of a newborn. I know I am very fortunate to have two healthy girls and be in CCR again. We have decided our family is complete and that was my last pregnancy.

I wish you and your little boy the very best!

Sharon

Hi Sharon

I just wanted to say congratulations! This is great news and Im so pleased for you.

Much love

Dear Sharon

my warmest congratulations. I am so happy for you. We've been in the same study in 2001 on Glivec + Pegasys -- I am so glad everything went so well.

I am also so happy to see the name of your lovely baby. Reason is that I am seeing your posts the first time today, and my first daugther, fathered during Glivec and born in 2006, is named Hanna. My second baby, which was created during Interferon-Monotherapy and was born last Monday, is named Laura Sophie.

All the best to Hannah Sophie - I do hope we meet again.

Best
Jan

Hi Jan,

Good to hear from you again!

Many congratulations on the birth of your second daughter. Delighted for you and your family! A lovely name! My oldest daughter is called Kiera Marie and is now two and a half.

It would be great to meet you and your girls. Where are you based in Germany now? We are now in Soest.

Congratulations again and my very best wishes to you and your family!

Sharon

Dear Jan,
I am sure there are members of this forum that will be more than pleased to read your news.
There has been news of 4 baby girls in the last few months or so (see KennyD's post below and also on Matt Sinclair's diary)

I am looking forward to meeting with Laura Sophie (and Hanna too) ... I know that you and Michi are so happy to have another baby and sister for Hanna.
It is great that doctors are supporting their patients in having families in spite of the risks although I understand that the risks for males is considered insignificant. Are we any nearer to getting data on taking Glivec and pregnancy?
love,
Sandy

I was also lucky to have a baby whilst just being diagnosed with CML in the November 2004, then I was pregnant by the June in 2005. It was a very tense time as I was told that Mathew would be one of 4 born world wide on glivec. He is a happy typical 2 year old. Unfortunately I wanted more but took the decision not to have anymore. During my pregnancy I was taken off the glivec for 17 weeks when my white cell count reached about 25 the hard choice was to go back on it.
I was scared that it could potentially harm him. We were lucky for it to not do any damage. However he does seem to share the same colour hair as glivec- copper gingery

Hi Sarahjane,
Novartis are in the process of setting up a pregnancy registry for maternal Glivec birth outcomes. They hope to have this set up by the end of the year. It is great that you had a normal birth and that all went well even though you became pregnant whilst taking Glivec. Novartis recommends that Glivec is stopped for between 3-6 months BEFORE conception. They do not recommend that any woman considers pregnancy whilst taking Glivec.

I am so happy to hear that you have a lovely boy.
Sharon has managed to expand her family with judicious planning and clincal support. It is a hard decision to make.

best wishes,
Sandy
