Very dry skin after BMT

6 months ago now, I had a MUD bone marrow transplant. Everything was going fine until 2 weeks where my skin has become very dry, itchy and flaky. Specialist has recommended moisturising cream, but it doesn't seem that effective

Anyone else experienced this? Any advice/tips.

Many thanks

Can you get Diprobase cream? My foster son had a BMT about the same time as you and was given Diprobase in hospital. Maybe it's available on prescription? Ask at your hospital. He no longer uses it but it was marvellous when his skin was very dry a few weeks ago. There is something called Doublebase also, which is even more moisturising, which I know another post-BMT patient was using. We just use aqueous cream now, which is available at chemists and is great as it is non-perfumed and much cheaper than most branded moisturisers!
Are you reducing your ciclosporin now? We were warned that there could be a bit of GvHD at this stage. What does your consultant say is causing the dryness? Glad to hear everything is going fine (apart from the skin!)
Good luck,

Hi there, My Son had this problem as well post BMT. I think its quite a common one. We were told not to use anything scented, ideally aqueous cream. I also used diprobase on him and that seemed to help alot.

Thanks for the comments.

I haven't used Diprobase, I'll ask about it as I'm back at hospital later in the week.

My ciclosporin is being reduced and I think the dryness is being caused by the GvHD. It's the itch that drives me crazy!!
