Following various tests, I have just been told by my Doctor that the most likely reason for me needing to ‘go’ more frequently is that I probably have ‘irritable bladder syndrome’. She asked if I’d heard if this was something that troubled others taking Imatinib. Anyone else had similar experiences? I’ve been taking Imatinib for 7 years or so, but this has only become an issue over the lst year or so.

Irritable Bladder Syndrome
Hi Alan
Not sure if its related at all but the reason I went to the doctor's in the first place was I had to keep going all the time and I thought I had Diabetes and it turned out to be CML. Its been better since I went on the drugs though

Hi Alan,
I am not sure if this is a side effect of imatinib. However it might be that you are not drinking enough water and so your kidney's would be stressed and you could be experiencing some symptoms of an underlying infection..... this sort of infection could be the cause increased frequency. You should ask your doctor to give you a urine test to see if there is an infection which would be cleared up with a short course of antibiotics.
It might seem contradictory but if you drink more fluids (pref. plain water)your kidneys would work better and flush out toxins/bacteria etc more efficiently.
