Flu Jab

Hi my Doctor feels that I should have the flu jab but when I see my consultant he said at the moment my immune system is okay - so not to bother having it done - after seeing my doctor again I feel I should have it done - does anybody have an opinion as I am not sure what to do

Hi Jacqui,
I too asked my doctor about the flu jab - like your doctor he said I would be fine without it. I too wasn't sure, but I think I will trust his opinion. I'm not sure if anyone else has been advised otherwise?

Just to put my two pennies worth in, my GP has offered to give me all the jabs (flu, pneumonia and swine flu) - My Haematologist did say that CML doesnt risk our immune system but take the jabs if my GP is offering.

So far I have had the Flu and Pneumonia jab. The Pneumonia jab gave me a high temp 39.4 deg celcius and a trip to A&E to check all was OK. I havent really done anything about Swine Flu yet.

I have had the flu and pneumonia jabs this year,And both my Haematologists have comfirmed that my immune system is low due to CML,you only have to read the common side effects in the drug notes for both Glivec and Sprycell to comfirm this.
I will have the swine flu once my GP has stock

Hi I am coming round to the same conclusion - if they are offering it I may be better to have it now rather than regret it later. I always thought that cml can effect your immume system so with this in mind I may be better off having it now rather than when a time my immune system is not so strong. This to me makes sense but I am not a doctor.

Thanks for your advise - i think I will have it as I cant guarantee my immune system will stay strong - did you have any side effects fromthe flu jab

Hi Lloyd

After reading other peoples comments I am going to ask my consultant again about this on Tuesday - as my doctors are keen to give me the flu jab. My concern is that although my immune system is good at moment - things may change

Jacqui,
I had my flu jab 2 weeks ago with no side effects, but this could just be good luck on my part.
Iknow that some people can suffer some mild flu like symptoms. I saw my haematologist yesterday & was told to get the swine flu jab, so will speak with my GP on monday.

Never had a problem with the flu jab and this is my ninth year,(if you cant tolerate eggs tell the doctor as egg free jabs on request)

Hi I had my flu jab 2 weeks ago, no side effects at all, apart from a sore arm for a couple of days.
Seeing my consultant tomorrow at Kings for a BMB will ask about swine flu.
