hi i was wondering if anyone is experiencing bad teeth, my teeth have yellowed and broken down and chipped easily since i have been on glivec

Hi Janice I suppose gleevic could be the cause of yellowing teeth because of the colour and whats in the tablet. I always suffered with bleeding gums but in general my teeth have done ok. My dentist whom I have had for many years sees me every three months instead of six months mainly to keep an eye on my gums. I also have switched from an ordinary toothbrush to an electric one and this has been a godsend because I do not scrub at my teeth the brush does the trick and since using it I no longer have bleeding gums, I was also advised by the dentist to use a toothpaste with a stripe in it such as aquafresh or colgate because there is something in these toothpastes to help prevent the build up of plaque and have the occassional rinse of salt and water as this helps kill germs rather than using a mouth wash. This may not have answered your problem in full but I hope some of it may be of use to you. I cant believe this, I read your email last night and thought nope this hasnt affected me. However, just today while eating popcorn!! my tooth chiped. I never have any problems with my teeth, I cant believe it, especially because of eating popcorn!! I reckon its got something to do with glivec x
Rio, who was on Glivec for 2 yrs prior to having a BMT, had to have 8 baby teeth removed due to decay - and I know his diet did not include high levels of sugary stuff and that he cleaned his teeth regularly. I have heard other people wondering if Glivec affects teeth but have never had confirmation from medical professionals. I had to endure a telling off from the dental consultant however, who made the suggestion that I was indulging Rio with sweet treats because he had CML! I was very annoyed.
