Hi Weaam,

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis! But congratulations on your pregnancy!

I was diagnosed in 2001 at 27. Since then, I have given birth to two healthy little girls. In both pregnancies, I took interferon throughout the 9 months (but no Glivec). My daughters are now one and three and very healthy.

I wish you the very best!

Sharon

Hi,
I'm 25 weeks pregnant at the moment and undergoing Leaukepheresis in order to avoid medication. Doctors plan to put me on interferon a bit later in pregnancy but I'm mostly worried about what's going to happen after the baby is born. I want to breastfeed for as long as possbile (I breastfed my other 3 kids for more than 2 years each) but is it possible to do it while on gleevec or other CML drugs? Did you manage to breastfeed yourself?
Anna

Hi Weaam,

I am now 41 weeks pregnant- always go overdue and was treated with Glivec before pregnancy but have not received any medication during the pregnancy. Wait and see how things go as it all depends on how stable your bloods are during the pregancy though so have a chat with your doctor and voice your concerns.

Do not be afraid

Hi,
Have answered above, but just wanted to say my case is alot different from yours. I was diagnosed in 2001 and had been off Glivec in each pregnancy for a year. I was very grateful just to be pregnant, something I never thought possible at diagnosis. I have to admit breastfeeding was secondary for me, I just wanted to be around to see my little babies grow up. So I followed my consultants recommendations and within 3 months, I had regained my cytogenic remission.

Hi Weaam,

I am 28 Years old, I was dx with CML while I was pregnant with my third child two years ago. I had leaukepheresis once every two weeks until baby was born, at 35 weeks, then my consultant advised me to start glivec straight away so I couldnt breast feed, which was a bit upsetting because I breastfed my other two children, however I felt this was the most sensible thing to do. My baby boy is now a toddler aged 19 months in perfectly good health, hes my miracle baby. x x

I pray everything will go as smoothly for you as it did me x

Hi again,

Unfortunately, I wasn´t able to breastfeed as I went back on Glivec straightaway as my consultant recommended. I am no longer taking interferon, just Glivec.

My babies say thank you for their greetings!

Take care!
