CML - dasatanib and bowel cancer

Hi

If this is of interest to anyone who gets in this position. Brian, my husband has had CML for three years and is doing very well with dasatanib is now having a bowel cancer operation on next Wednesday 27th January. Consultant says the tumour is intact in bowel but the bowel is unstable so we have opted for full bowel removal and Brian will have stoma bag. I,personally had an ilieostomy operation 16 years ago as a result of ulcerative colitis, it causes me no bother and is just part of my life and I hope this will help Brian to comne to terms with having a colostomy bag.

Brian's CML consultant has said not to stop the dasatanib during all this. Please wish us luck, what with MRSA and other complications that occur with stomas I really hope it will be as succesful as my experience.

On a brighter note, my daughter - 37 years old - is having first grandchild, and so she sayslast baby, on or around 7th Feb!

Love to all

Dear Chris,

I am sorry to hear that Brian has to agree to such an invasive procedure as total bowel removal but wish him the best outcome possible. It must be daunting for him to contemplate, as bowel cancer can be cured by surgery - even when it is quite advanced. I would still recommend that you get in touch with one of the bowel cancer charities like 'Beating Bowel Cancer' and ask for advice and information... if you haven't already done so. I know that you have managed and coped very well and are obviously a great support to Brian.

Good luck to both of you, and congratulations to your daughter on the upcoming birth of her baby.

Sandy

Good luck Brian. Am absolutely sure you will be fighting fit in no time!!
