Massage and Nilotinib

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knows if it is OK to have fully body massage's with our drugs, especially Nilotinib? I moved over from Glivec 4 weeks ago and have been feeling amazing in the last couple of weeks. I had a massage yesterday and the bone pain and headache came back. Someone mentioned that when on Chemo you are recommended not to have massages so wondered if this was the case for our drugs?

I am hoping it is a coincidence....

Thanks and take care
Lynn x

Dear Lynn,
this is more likely to be an effect of the massage rather than nilotinib. I think it is probably a coincidence. Massage can effect you by encouraging your body to get rid of toxins and that can results in aches and pains.... and especially headaches.

Nilotinib and Glivec (and dasatinib) do not have cross intolerances..ie. the side effects are different in the main.

Best wishes and glad you are feeling better since changing drugs.

Sandy

Sandy, although I have read that side effects are said to be different, there are those of us who are suffering the bone pain associated with the Glivec even though we've changed to Dasatinib.

Hi vickie, I am sorry to hear that you still suffer the leg/bone pain. I really did find this side effect..although really hard to cope with ... disappeared almost on the dot of 3 months from starting with 600mg imatinib and it never returned. I did then suffer cramps etc. but never the same as the initial pain.

I do hope it gets better for you soon. but side effects profiles do differ between the drugs.... as I said 'in the main'
best wishes,
Sandy

Hi Sandy,
Thanks for the reply...on both Imatinib & Dasatinib the pain didn't start straight away along with the other side effects which as you say, disappear after three months, but instead came on at about the six month mark!
