Travel Insurance - Shop Around

Hi,

I've just been quoted the best price ever for my travel insurance and it really does pay to shop around. Two quotes were in £80 + and my latest quote was under £20 and they ask me more questions about my cml too.

Went to Hammersmith last week and my latest pcr result was the lowest it's ever been at 0.004 so I'm very, very pleased.

Take care, Angela

Hi Angela, Congratulations on the PCR result!

I am in the process of getting some Travel Ins and I wondered who it was you went with for the cheap quote?

Thanks

Michelle

Hi both-

Just wanted to say that I went to New York last year and got insurance with Free Spirit. I had been diagnosed with CML only a couple of months, but as the trip was booked and I was responding to treatment my conusltant gave me the okay.

Just before I left my GP insisted that I have the sine flu, seasonal flu and pneomoccocal flu jabs. This set off an extreme allergic reaction and on our second day in the big apple i ended up in an emergency room. I spent a night and a day in hospital and they gave me lots of ridiculous test, because they thought I was sufficiently insured.

Since then the insurance company have said they won't be paying any medical bills because I hadn't declared on my application form that I had been treated for a suspected bronchial infection shortly after I was diagnosed with CML, even though this had nothing to do with my hospilization in Manhattan.

I guess what I'm saying is that you need to check your small print soooooooo thoroughly, as if there is any error or get out for them not to pay any hospital fees, chances are they'll find it. Having said that, if you get the right insurance and complete it fully CML is absolutely no barrier to travelling.

Best-

Adam

PS We are so unbelieveably lucky to have the NHS in this country. The day I spent in what was supposedly Manhattan's top private hospital, was like something out of Scrubs, only less funny, much less informed and without the annoying music. Bottom line- Obama rocks & bring on the reform!!

Hi. I bought insurance from Medici

www.medicitravel.com

They were really helpfully and very cost effective. I bought mine for the year. I cannot remember but I think the whole family and myself cost about £120.00 for worldwide cover, hope this helps :)

Hi Michelle,

Thanks very much for your kind words.

The travel company is called Orbis Insurance Services based in Bexhill, Sussex. Tel: 01424 217107

They were really helpful and when you go through another company for your medical health questionnaire they were extremely good too. Hope this helps you.

Let me know how you get on.

Take care

Angela

Obviously, the reason some people get refused insurance and the reason  we get different quotes, is down to the answers we give. For instance, I'm always asked if I am currently on Chemotherapy. What do other people answer to this question, because Glivec/Dasatinib/Nilotinib can be described as Chemotherapy? I bet many people answer no to this question, but are they right?

One thing is for sure, many of us are susceptible to giving the insurance companies the wrong information, albeit unknowingly. Telling them that we are not on Chemotherapy would probably lead the Insurers into believing there is no CML evident at all. With that scenario, it wouldn't be at all surprising if they refused to pay out in the event of a claim.

£1480 for single trip to New York  He was diagnosed nearly 4 years ago and remains stable and otherwise healthy

This is outragous! Has anyone please got any ideas of other insurance companies?

Many thanks

Mary
