swapping from Nilotinib to Dasatinib

Dear All,

I have been told today that due to severe reaction after 13 months on Nilotinib that I am to start on Disatinib. Its a bit scary changing from one TK'I to another, but thats ok. What id like to know is how have other people been in a similar situation & any possible side effects.  I have been prescribed Fusimide for fluid retention initially but the info seems very short on the ground. Any advice with this would be great  for me as its a completely different regime and I hope other could advise.

Best to all

Hi Ali

I swapped from Glivec to Dasatinib due to adverse reactions and it was a really smooth transition. A few minor side effects but nothing like getting used to Glivec and the only problem I have now is being tired much of the time but I can live with that. I don't seem to have suffered from fluid retention at all so hopefully you won't either.

Let us know how you get on

Hi Ali

I am also swapping from Nilotinib to Dasatinib.  Will see Dr second week in June to start the change over. I am on holiday till then

What dose are you starting on?  Keep in touch and we can compare notes!!  Goodluck with the change over.

Pennie.

Hi Pennie, what a coincidence! I am stating at 100mg once daily. I don't know what dose others are on. Perhaps they could let us know? As yet I don't know if the dose will increase. I also have fruzimide in case of odeama,  apparently if there is to be pleural effusion and or swelling it usually start 6 weeks into treatment, so I've been told.

It will be good to compare notes!

Have a good holiday.

Ali.

Hi Ali,

the standard dose for dasatinib is 100mg daily. It might be that you respond well and in time could even reduce the dose. When dasatinib was first used in the general population the standard dose was 140mg daily but further studies showed that there were no significant differences in outcomes when people were given the lower 100mg dose- but this meant that the side effect profile was reduced so the standard dose was officially reduced to 100mg.

Wishing you good luck and a great response - keep updating us here on this forum.

Best wishes,

Sandy
