Books on CDs are good for the days when a real book feels way to heavy. Note pad and pencil, for messages home about washing, treats etc that you think about in the middle of the night. Easy slip on top, sometimes you will feel cold - other hot ! Crocs for your feet - you can wear them in the shower.
Good luck, sending healing wishes your way.

Hi Michael,
First I wish you the best for your upcoming SCT. When I was at HH having my sct in 2003, I found that I relied on music/ambient sounds to help with transporting myself elsewhere. I had a CD of waves crashing on pebble and this in particular got me through.
A heat pack was essential for me... I slept on it as I started to feel the cold quite badly especially around my shoulders and neck area.
I wore a fleece hat for most of my stay for the same reason.
I must admit I read a lot...and found the the more weighty the subject the better- this helped with having to concentrate on other things rather than what was going on in my marrow. I think though you have to choose subjects that you are really interested in for that to work.
I loved watching travel programmes on TV...... I think there is a trend emerging here as my coping strategy was obviously to do with transporting myself!
I did drink lots and lots of water and also ginger drinks which helped with taste changes etc.
Ask for home cooked foods to be brought in... I do not think Kings would be any better at providing appetising meals that anywhere else. Homemade soups are great if you can get someone you trust to make them and heat them up in the ward kitchen. Otherwise I relied on prepared mango from M&S.
If you can have a laptop in your room then please consider it. Keeping an online diary really does help you communicate with the outside world.
Lastly... focus on getting your donor cells to engraft and multiply in record time. Meditating on this really did get me home quicker.
