Hi Kathy,
Thanks for the quick reply.. it's horrible isn't it, I take omeprazole but it's still making my life a misery.
Do you know if it's caused by the Glivec or it's just us and we would have had it anyway. Has you consultant said anything?

Yes, you're certainly not alone on this one. I had it occasionally before dx, but it's worse now, though after 8 months on Glivec I'm getting used to it. More pillows help at night, and not wearing tight clothing round your waist. Also drink plenty of water.
Hi Liz
I think it's probably a bit of both at least in my case. I used to get reflux before Glivec but it is certainly worse with it, and at times can be quite bad. Some foods make it worse - red meat especially for me. And having a cold can make it very bad. I also find eating highly acidic foods like oranges hard work now.
My consultant assures me it's a common minor side effect with Glivec, which is a bit hard on the stomach, and that it's ok to take omeprazole, which I do fairly regularly (10mg once a day) and it definitely helps. When it calms down I stop the omeprazole for a bit.
Still, it seems a small price for me to pay for the benefit I have with Glivec. I can't really complain.

I have struggled with this ever since I started on Glivec. Over the years I have discovered the following to be very helpful:
1. One Lansoprazole every morning before breakfast.
2. One 30mg Fybrogel drink after breakfast.
3. Drink lots of water.
4. Suck Oil of Peppermint after some meals
5. Thoroughly chew food.
Since I have been following this process, my digestive system has been much more stable, although not perfect.
I hope that this helps. Johnh
