Peter Capel

For those of you who remember Peter Capel.  Peter passed away peacefully at Hammersmith Hospital yesterday due to complications unrelated to his CML.  Peter was a Glivec pioneer who was one of the original 10 patients accepted on the 0106 trial for newly diagnosed patients back in 2000 [if my memory serves me right]. He was a model patient on Glivec and achieved a very low PCR very quickly. In recent years he changed to Nilotinib to see if his joint pain would lessen and this worked equally well for him. He was a CML Support trustee when CML Support was first established.   He supported the work done at Hammersmith for leukaemia patients and was always willing to encourage others.   Peter had a long and varied successful career and was a well respected and loved member of the community.  He was also a very dear friend and I am going to miss him very much. 

I thought that those of you who remember him would like to know of his passing.

Thank you Elizabeth for letting us know that Peter has died. I am very upset to hear this news. I saw him recently at a roundtable discussion regarding CML therapy- as did Pennie Douglas who I am sure will also be shocked to hear this news. He seemed well and told me he was doing fine on nilotinib, so it is all the more shocking for me to hear he has died even though not from CML.

You will remember that when we first started the support group, Peter was extremely supportive and enthusiastic. He was a generous man and was always fare and non-judgemental in his dealing with people. He was also a confident and very entertaining speaker and I remember with fondness the first time I met him when I heard him speak at the first UK Seminar for CML patients. I am sure he will be missed by many people, but especially by his wife Ann and his family.

Oh Elizabeth.  What sad news.  I saw Peter at the CML round table and he was in his usual ebullient, excellent mood.  Please pass on my condolences to his family. He was one of the original CML pioneers, and worked hard to further the patient perspective on this disease.  He will be missed.

One of lifes true Gentleman. Both Carol and I were saddened to hear of Peters untimely pasing. Carol and I saw him only 10 days  ago in Weston ward at the Hammersmith. We have known him only for just 6 years but instantly took a  liking to him and Anne and became good friends.

Carol and I would like to send our condolences to Anne and his family and hope they have very many happy memories.

There is little I can add to what has already been said at his funeral.  He was larger than life.  He was was my neighbour for pretty much most of my growing up years. I am Godmother to his eldest Grandson.  HE was a most generous person.  He will be missed by SO many.  RIP lol Ashley and family xxx:)
