Glivec side effects II: kidney stones?

Last week I had pain in my right side, specially the back. Although the pain was not terrible I did feel terribly bad retching etc. Went to the clinic where after a CAT scan I was diagnosed with kidney stone. I have been taking Glivec for 2.5 years and I have been in MMR for 1.5 years. Have anybody experience this? Is it a side effect of the keukemia or Glivec? I ask because I was told that these stones could be either calcareous or they could be cristals of uric acid, and I know that uric acid is a problem in leukemia. The stone is 4mm, only visible in the CAT scan and not in normal xrays. Thanks in advance for any help with this issue.

Cheers,

Fernando

Hi Fernando

I haven't experienced stones on Glivec but I had one 20 years ago - long before CML appeared.  It was very small, and I did not need surgery to remove it! Although I have to say it was extremely painful until it decided to leave...

I recall at the time being told that there are multiple causes of stones and even high uric acid. So I suppose it's possible that it is something to do with Glivec (probably unlikely to be the CML I would think given how long you've been MMR) - but it is at least as likely to be something else. In my case, it was probably dehydration - I haven't had one since, and I try not to get too dehydrated.

Am sure the docs dealing with your stone can advise you - I also seem to recall being given some dietary advice but pretty sure I've since ignored it!
