UK Seminar- Liverpool. 22nd, January 2011

Dear All,

This years National CML Patient/Carer Seminar has been unavoidably delayed due to some logistical difficulties and staff availability. However, all is not lost as Prof. Clark has outlined in his following message.

I will upload the registration form and further details on the home page.

Best wishes,

Sandy

National CML Patient and Carer Seminar.

Saturday 22nd January 2011, Crowne Plaza Hotel, Liverpool, UK

This is an annual event which is held at a different location every year, in the hope that as many people as possible affected by Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia will be able to come to a meeting. The 2011 meeting will be held in Liverpool. Every year there is more information available so please do feel free to attend even if you have already been to previous meetings.

The meeting is intended to be fairly informal, but not everybody feels comfortable asking a national authority on CML a question in the middle of a big meeting! Because of this the meeting is divided into two parts. In the morning there will a series of talks in a large lecture theatre. After lunch, we will have breakout sessions, which are smaller informal meetings in which it is easy to ask the experts questions. This formula seems to have worked well for previous meetings.

We anticipate that about 200-250 people will be coming. Our numbers are limited by the venue, and it is possible we may be oversubscribed, so I do advise early registration.

There is a fee of £10 per person attending.   I enclose a registration form for you to register your interest.

Best wishes

This is good news Sandy.

We notice it's being held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel - do you think CMLSupport could negoiate a discount on the rooms for people who wish to attend or are there any other recommended hotels nearby? We'd need to stay over as it would be a long way for us to travel.

I'm sorry but I cannot do this owing to lack of human resources/time but it is a good idea. I suggest that if you need to stay overnight then the best person to ask if a discount would be possible  would be Barbara McEvoy who is organising the event and logistics etc. her email and tel number are on the home page.

I am also not able to recommend hotels in Liverpool- although my family live there ;o) Maybe someone else can?

However, I would recommend you stay in Southport as it has plenty of hotels and B&B's (probably much cheaper that the Crown Plaza) and is just an easy 30 minute train journey north from Liverpool along the coast.

I asked about the possibility of delegates receiving a discount for overnight stay at the Plaza Hotel and Barbara McEvoy says that she had asked but they need to know numbers before they can give her a price. Obviously she does not know how many delegates will require overnight stays until she has had all the registration forms in.

I suggest that you indicate if you would be interested in overnight stay on your registration form and then Barbara can try to get a deal -either at the Plaza itself of at another nearby Hotel. She is making enquiries.

Hope this is helpful,

Sandy,

*if you have already sent your registration form you could email Barbara to let her know that you want information about Hotels....her email contact is on the home page

As promised from Barbara, here are some links to nearby hotels:

The travel lodge is cheap and cheerful and would cost £29!

There are lots in the city centre that are quite reasonably priced.
