Side Effects on Dasatinib

Hi ,

I was diagnosed in August and have been reading the postings on the Forum with interest over the last few weeks. As with most people, it was a massive shock to get the phone call from the doctors after a routine blood test....................for gout would you believe ! Afterone or two sleepless nights I got my head round the situation and have been carrying on as  'normal'.  Going to work , playing squash, swimming , 5- a side etc.

I decided to  go for the Spirit II Trial after doing some research and having a chat with my Consultant..............and was selected for the DASATINIB arm of the trial.

I've been fortunate in that the side effects have been minimal ( a swollen eye lid for a few days) and the first few blood test results show things are moving in the right direction ( although the Platelet count dropped but has since recovered).

However, over the last few days, I've been having really irritating itchyness around my neck and face, particulary in the morning. Also,   some spots have occured, which feel a bit like acne ( from what I remember its so long ago). Additionally, there are patches of dry skin also. It's not at all bad compared to some of the possible side effects which may occur, but I wondered if anybody has had anything similar and whether you can recommend any remedy.

Many Thanks

PS   Just signed up for the Liverpool Event , so look forward to meeting a few of you there.

HI yes I am on the same trial and yes i have been getting the same symptoms neck small spots and initially spots around my mouth but I am on antibiotic  which have been prescribed for the long term, although they are now round my hair line  - I have been getting theses for a least 7 months and I started dasatinib september 2009

Thanks for your note Jacqui.

I've just been to see the consultant this moring for  regular visit. The nurses have recommended a cream - Diprobase. You can buy it over the counter from a chemist and have just started applying it this morning. Might be worth a try for you.

Have you been OK with other Side Effects ?

Good Luck

Dave M

HI Dave

Thanks for that may well try it.  My only other side effects are puffy eyes if I dont drink enough water and if I have a night out with too much to drink I may get achy knees - which was one of the side effects I had when I initially started the drug.

I am back next week after my year bone marrow biopsy so I am keeping my fingers crossed that all is well,

This is my 3rd biopsy , my results so far have been amazing I am in the zero club but I am aiming high and going for remission.

Best wishes to you and I hope the cream works

Jacqui

Hi Jacqui,

Achy knees is probably too much dancing !!

Sounds like things are working  really well for you and in some ways the minor side effects are a price worth paying. I've only been taking DASATINIB for 6 weeks and the White blood count is down from 130 to 6.8. I'm really pleased also.

We are off for a holiday to Australia tomorrow so really looking forward to that.

Good Luck when you get the results next week. Fingers crossed for you.

Have a great holiday keep being positive - believe you will get well, it works for me

By the way the cream has worked a treat. I have only being applying it for 2 days and the red patches and dry skin are almost gone.

Keep in touch
