Palpitations

Hello Everyone

I have been taking Glivec 400mg daily for six months. For the past two months I am having palpitations (on and off) at night (only when I go to bed). I would like to know if someone else has experienced the same thing.

Also is there anyone who has changed his/her medication between breakfast, lunch or Dinner? I take my medication with my main meal (Dinner). If I want to change it to Lunch, should I miss one day and start taking the medication at lunch time from the next day?

Regards

SHAZ

hi Shaz,

I too get palpitations occasionally although mine can be at any time. My heamatologist didn't have anything much to say about it just said to let her know if it gets more frequent.

I'm not too sure on the subject of changing your meds from dinner to lunch but I thought missing days was not reccomended. I would've thought just taking it at lunch the next day would be ok, it's not a huge difference is it, not like going fom dinner to breakfast.

Take care

Jackie

Hi Shaz,

I have switched taking my 400mg glivec from meal to meal a few times.

Its important to take the tablet daily, but switching the meal you take it on occasionally should be fine.

I think ideally you should take the tablet at the same time every day to maintain a constant level or "cycle" of glivec in your blood.

Hope this helps.

Hello Jackie/David

Thanks for your messege and sorry for the late reply. I went to the hospital to get some more tests done (regarding palpitations). The test results have all come back normal. My consultant thinks that either i am stressed (which up to some point i am) or i am anxious about something. Last week i was having palpitations all week but this week i have not experienced it at all. I also had my bone maorrow biopsy done on monday and wating for the results so fingures crossed.

Once again thanks for your help.

I wouldn't miss a day. I like to take my Glivec about an hour after dinner and a little before bed. When I've travelled and time changes affect this, I've gradually shifted the timing over a few days (though I have also gone straight from dinner to lunch from one day to the next without problems).  Key for me is to make sure I take it every day come what may, and that it's after food - otherwise i do feel queasy.  So, I think you can change straight to lunch without missing a day. I take comfort from the fact that people who take 800mg a day do something like this everyday so a one-off shorter period between doses is unlikely to hurt.

Hi Shaz,

I felt a bit stressed  when I found out Dr Ho was leaving Kings, hes been a fantastic surport durring my CML journey. But last week met Dr Gandi and quickly remembered that not only do Kings have great doctors they train great replacements.I am sure we are still at one of the best CML centres .

Hi Richard,

Thanks for the information. I think the same because changing the medication from dinner to lunch would not hurt. I will try to change my routine from tomorrow and see how it goes.

Thanks

Shaz

Hello Michael

Yes I felt the same when I heard that Dr Ho is leaving. I am going to see Dr Ho on the 29th of this month (probably the last time before he leaves). He is very experienced and talented. I am not sure who I am going to see next time. I have not seen Dr Gandi before. Is he new?

Shaz

I am not sure if hes new or not,he spent a lot of time explaining my results and  what was happening with my immune system, nothing was to much trouble, but then all the staff are pretty good.I am back on the 22nd of this month for bone marrow results(I know that it only takes two weeks for the results but I hate waiting ).
