Would you class 0.07 as remission?

Darren missed appointment with consultant at local hospital last week due to swine flu but they also couldnt find last lot of BCR results. I called Hammersmith who he is also under and who do they test.

Dr Marin said his results are 0.07, which is as good as we can hope for, especially given his not responding to first TKIs.

Would you say this was remission as much as it can be? Or is it always 0.01??

Firstly well done to Darren with the result, this is something to be very pleased about!!

A major moleculor respone is a 3 log reduction from his PCR result at diagnosis.

A 3 log reduction is when the PCR result reduces to a 1000th from dx. For example 70% reducing to .07% is a 3 log reduction.

So if Darren started at 70% or greater then he has achieved a major molecular response.

This is a fantastic result either way!!!!

David

he started at 98% so is that still a 3 log reduction? Its been nearly 2 years since he was told CML and some good news has been a long time coming.

We are hoping to move so would like to have him fairly stable before we leave the area.

He has achieved greater than a 3 log reduction, as a 3 log reduction would be 0.098% in his case.

I am also looking move house this year with a PCR of 0.07%, I too was looking for a stable result before commiting to move.

However the chances of selling our house in the current market seems to have shrunk by 3 log as well ;)

Best wishes

David

This is an excellent result. Achieving a 3 log reduction just about guarantees that he will never relapse with his CML.

There are several levels of remission. The first one is CCR. This occurs when the reults of a Bone Marrow Biopsy are 0/20 cells.

The next one is MMR (Major Molecular Response). This is the 3 log reduction.

The last one is CMR (Complete Molecular Response). Also callled PCRU. This result varies from lab to lab depending on the sensitivity of the PCR test done there.

Less than 10% of CML patients achieve CMR at the very sensitive labs.

I assign Zero Club numbers when a patient reaches CCR. Darren is # 1316 in the Zero Club. The Zero Club is a club of HOPE. Once you reach this level you are well on your way to a MMR.
