Another new arrival

I would like to share my wonderful news - our daughter, Ava, was born on 9th March 2011. I was diagnosed with CML in January 2005 and was advised that my chances of having a baby were very slim. Anyway, here we are six years later 'enjoying' sleepless nights!! I came off Glivec and switched to interferon for the duration of my pregnancy and have now started back on Glivec. Ava has brought a huge amount of joy to our lives and I am so grateful that, thanks to the amazing drug therapies available now, I am able to enjoy life to the full.

Anna

Dear Anna... what a lovely reason to lose sleep. Many congratulations on the birth of Ava- such a lovely name.

Sandy

Congrats Anna!  I pray you will enjoy your precious baby for 100 years...

Warmest,

Don

Anna, What fantastic news. Congratulations to you and your partner. After what must have been a very low point of your life in 2005, how life has changed for you. An inspiration for all younger CML patients who might be in a similar situation to you. Hope the renewal of your Glivec treatment goes well

Regards

Andy

Hi Anna,

Congratulations on your amazing news it really is fantastic!! Im so pleased for you!! I was just wondering if i could ask you a few questions please- how did you find taking interferon? Did you feel like you had the flu? is there different types of interferon and amounts?

Thank you very much!

Hi

thanks for the congratulations! The return to Glivec is going well, just getting through the cramp/bone aches and sickness and starting to get used to it again.

Re: the interferon - to begin with, I felt pretty ill, with flu-like symptoms (chills/fever and general aches and pains) I understand that interferon can be given in many different doses - my consultant just adjusted my dose until we found one that kept things under control and that I could tolerate without too many side effects. It took a little while to get it just right!

Anna

Your welcome I really am so pleased for you, its so good to hear about a succesful birth! Thank you so much for answering my questions it was really helpful to hear how you got on! Im currently pregnant and havent been taking any medication for the first trimester but unfortunately my results are starting to increase and we are discussing the option of treatment. Interferon has been mentioned, was just a bit concerned about the effect it could have on the baby and also managing the side effects, but that sounds sensible to keep adjusting the dose to keep things under control and what I can tolerate.

Thank you very much again, lots of best wishes for the future!!

Dear Anna - My congratulations to you and your partner on the birth of Ava. God bless you all!

VERY well done you!!! That can't have been an easy ride, but what a result!

I applaud you and wish you lots of love and happiness for sharing a long future with your family.

xx
