Cramps

Hi everyone

I have been on Glivec for nearly two years now and have been very fortunate in terms of side effects (hardly any). Recently i have started to have lots of cramps/spasams and because of this I can not do any exercise. Is this a side effect of Glivec? Is there anything i can take for the time being to relieve this until my next appointment with my consultant?

Any information/advice will be appreciated.

Regards

Shaz

Hi Shaz.... please read my own and others response to Mark who is newly diagnosed. I would say that excercise is essential... especially stretching but then that does seem to prompt muscle cramps. Maybe it is time to talk to your consultant about a change in therapy. Nilotinib is now available as 2nd line therapy and the cramping effect does not seem to be an issue.

Otherwise... I really believe that your magnesium levels are important. You might find the oil helpful or taking magnesium tablets might be better for you. ..but you need patience for your levels to rise and it is a long term strategy.

Try applying heat directly to the muscle when you have an attack. I found this lessened the duration. Drink lots of plain water as this helps the kidneys to flush out toxins and supports the liver too.

Hope this is helpful.

Hi Sandy

Thank you for your info/advice. I am going to see my consultant on Monday at Hammersmith Hospital. I have not thought about changing the therapy as I have had very good results so far and hardly any side effects.

I will get the magnesium tablets/spray and see if it helps.

Once again thank you for your advice.

Kind regards
