Hi Debra!
like you I was diagnosed when I was 28 weeks preganat of my first baby, as soon as I gave birth, I started my treatment with Tasigna, and I achieve molecular remission after 10 months. But now Im pregnant again, and my concern is that I was taking this medicine and I don't know if I should have this baby or not. My ONC and My OB/GYN say that I can do it, but there ir not enough information about this situation, and it may be a risk for my health and the baby, Im just want to know how was your second pregnancy, and how was the treatment with the interferon.

Alexandra,

I can understand why you are worried about conceiving whilst on TKI therapy- in your case Tasigna (nilotinib). The advice from the various drug companies is not to conceive before stopping therapy. This is because these drugs can affect the foetus in the first trimester.
It is hard for anyone to advise you on this, although your doctors do seem to be confident that you should go ahead. All I can suggest is that you listen to your own instincts, and also do a little research on the internet re: affects of TKI therapy/pregnancy.

Hi Alexandra,
You can obtain information at http://www.cmleukemia.com/cml-and-pregnancy.html. Pregnancy with CML is a big responsibility for a doctor. I hope that your hematologist is a CML specialist.

Sincerely, Gilles

Hi Alexandra, My daughter was 28 weeks pregnant when she found out she was expecting. She was taking Dasatinib throughout, although she did say she was vomiting up the tablet as soon as she took it. She stopped treatment immediatley. Joseph was born in August 3 weeks early weighing 7lb 3oz. He is healthy and I have to admit I was very concerned but she was adamant he would be ok, and she looks like she was right. Hope you get some information about this as when I was looking I could not find much, just an occurance in America. Love to you Dawn xx
