CML and broken bones

I was just wondering if anyone had any experience of healing of broken bones whilst they have had CML?
I broke my hip and had a repair (almost 11 months ago) and the bones still haven't properly knitted.
Just to recap I have been on glivec and also had a mini SCT almost 5 years ago. I had DLI 6 months after the transplant and developed an inflammatory arthritis of unknown aetiology. The joint pains are still ongoing and I have been on lots of drugs to treat the pain - including steroids. My orthopaedic doctor was wondering if the delayed union of the bones was due to the CML/steroids or what? Meanwhile I can do pretty much anything I want except impact exercise and if things get worse I will need a hip replacement!
That's it in a nutshell and I was just wondering if anyone else had had any experience with the healing of broken bones?

Thank and have a lovely summer

My wife had a problem with healing of bones. Nothing to do with CML - that's me. She fell off her horse and broke her leg - spiral comminuted fracture of the tibia running into the knee. Ended up in an external fixator for 8 months. The cause turned out to be hypercalcaemia caused by hyperparathyroidism. Have you had a blood calcium test? Just a thought.

not sure it helps but I had a broken nose when I got hit the face by a softball (they are in no way soft!!!) whilst on imatinib some years ago. Seemed to heal ok, an in fact slightly smaller than before...

Thank you both for your replies.

I have had loads of blood tests to try and establish anything else going to with regard to the broken hip. Nothing really found; I was even investigated for coeliac disease as apparently this can be related to weak bones!

Hi Susan,
This may be relevant or not!
You mention that you are/have been on steroids. From experience, long term steroids can lead to poor bone density & thus delayed healing. I was prescribed calcium tablets daily and something else (cant recall the name at the moment) that I took once a week to improve the bones.
Hope things improve for you.
