Hi,
I am currently a patient at NottinghamCity Hospital where I have received excellent care since I was diagnosed in October 2008. I am now on Nilotonib and doing well.
We are planning to move to Walney Island, Cumbria to live near our daughter. Can anyone recommend a hospital in Cumbria where they are getting good care for CML?
Thanks Mary
You are here
CML care in Cumbria
There are several general hospitals in the area- but I am not aware that any specialise in CML although both Furness General and Lancaster Royal Infirmary are quite large hospitals.
You might arrange to share your care with one of the above and a specialist CML centre such as Liverpool Royal (approx 1.5- 2 hr drive down the M6) which is an excellent research and teaching hospital. Prof.Richard Clark heads the haematology unit.
I love that part of the world as my auntie lived in Ulverston (near Barrow-in-Furness) and I spent many of my childhood holidays there.
Link to NHS hospitals in that area here-
Best wishes for your move 'up north'
Hi Mary!
I live On walney!!
I have check ups every 6-8 weeks with dr Macheta (Furness general) he is a fantastic haematologist and has been wonderful with me since my diagnosis. I travel through to Manchester every 6 months to see prof yin as I am in the spirit 2 trial on dasatinib, FGH isnt part of the trial. Dr Macheta is in regular contact with prof yin so I feel in very good hands!
If you want to get in touch here is my email alisontaylor24@hotmail.co.uk
I am glad to hear you are doing well on your treatment.
Best wishes
Alison
