Eyelid bleeds

I know quite a few people on imatinib have eye bleeds from time to time, but does anyone else have bleeds in their eyelids? I've had three in the last few months - not painful or worrying at all, and they go in a couple of days. I wouldn't have noticed unless I looked in the mirror, but I was asked if I'd been in a fight!

Hi Olivia,

I have not come across this effect- would you describe it as bruising rather than bleeding? Or is the skin on your eyelids quite thin and therefore prone to injury?

Sandy

It's definitely bleeding rather than bruising - bright red rather than dark - and goes away completely in a couple of days without leaving any trace. I suppose the skin on my eyelids is rather thin since they have been stretched by the imatinib puffiness for the last 3 years. I was curious rather than worried by it, and just wondered whether anyone else had the same condition. I did mention it when I last went for a check-up, but the doc didn't seem any more bothered by it than I was.

Olivia, from what you describe it really does sound like as you say- an effect on the (already quite thin) skin on the eyelids, caused by the water retention around the eye area, a classic and common side effect of imatinib.

I met with someone recently who had very obvious flaky, sore looking skin on his eyelids- from imatinib- which looked quite painful and easy to injure.
All I can suggest is that you try to treat your eyelids very kindly and maybe use pure natural Vit. E oil to help moisturise the skin on your eyelids. You can get Vit E oil at most good health shops/chemists. ~Also cucumber slices are meant to be very soothing to the eye area and are sometimes recommended to reduce swelling around the eyes. Try resting for 15 or 20 minutes with some thinly sliced cucumber on your eyelids.

I hope you find some kind of remedy to counteract this effect.
How is your PCR?

Sandy

My PCR is OK, thanks - 0.029. As I said, the bleeding doesn't bother me much - I could wear shades if I really minded, and it soon goes. I just wonder whether I am unique...
