Hi All
Some of you may remember last summer I had a real problem with my sinuses/nose etc and managed to lose 20 lbs in weight as I was unable to chew and breathe, so chose to breathe. I felt as if I was being waterboarded when I sat down to eat and the snuffling, sneezing, coughing, nose blowing was putting everyome off their food. By the time my GP dx hayfever, (the wettest, coldest summer ever!!),the tubes inside my nose were so swollen that I couldn't get the nasal spray up my nose so had to wait till autumn for everything to calm down.
This year I started on hayfever tablets + nasal spray back in April and so far all is well.
I am just wondering if anyone else has suffered from this - if it's something I would have developed with or without CML and Imatinib, or whether it is a side effect.
I posted the Ask the experts in the US and had a very fast reply saying they weren't aware that this was a side effect but that no research had been done into whether CML or the treatment increases allergies. There were a few postings on Jerry's US site from people suffering similar symptoms. Prior to CML I had never had hayfever.
Best wishes from a fatter me,
Chrissie
You are here
Hayfever
Hi Chrissie,
It could be that as periorbital oedema is a common side effect of imatinib that you are more prone to reactions caused by allergens in the air- such as pollen? Just a guess really, but your symptoms sound pretty severe- very much like sinusitis.
Hope the tabs and spray continues to keep your symptoms at bay.
Best .. Sandy
Hi Sandy
Yes, so far so good.it was the most unpleasant experience, and considering last summer's wet and cold no one thought of hay fever. All under control so far this year thanks to tablets + spray.
It sounds logical that it could be down to the oedema. My haematologist intimated that it wasn't due to my immune system (my suggestion - shot in the dark), but then he got technical and lost me!
I posted in case anyone else gets the same problem.
Very warm down here in Devon. Is this the summer we've been waiting for for so long? Shame about the sunburn sensitivity, but nice to see the sun.Out comes the factor 50!
best
Chrissie
