DESTINY

I`m not a regular contributor to this forum - only the second time.
My story - I was diagnosed in 2009 and agreed to take part in a clinical trial i.e. SPIRIT 2 (Imatinib v Dasatinib). I was allocated Dasatinib. I`m one of the lucky ones in that I responded very quickly to the drug and my PCR has been consistently low over the last 3yrs, making me an ideal candidate for the proposed DESTINY study which was discussed at the National UK CML Patient/Carer Day in Glasgow, where I attended.
I attend Hillingdon Hospital every 3 months and have a yearly bone marrow examination which, I believe, is analysed at Hammersmith Hospital.
My consultant (he was present at recent Clinical Trials meeting) is very much aware of my keenness to be involved in the study. So you can imagine my deep disappointment when he told me the Destiny Trial is only open at a limited number of sites (he didn`t disclose where) and that Hillingdon would not be participating.
Can anyone tell me where I go from here? Should I give up the fight and just continue taking the drug (for which I`m truly grateful) with all its associated side effects - fatigue / pleural effusion?
I`m prepared for the fight!!

Hi Sue.

I think that if that's what you want and your counts etc. are with the prescribed limits for the trial I think that you should ask for a Referal to a centre that is trialing it.
Hammersmith probably the closest
Good luck.

Hi Sue,
I agree with Steven, there will quite a few sites around the UK that will be participating in the DESTINY trial. Given your treatment centre is close to West London, I see no reason to stop you enrolling in the trial at Hammersmith, as long as you fit the entry criteria.

Sandy

Thank you both, Steven and Sandy, for your reassuring comments.

Hopefully, there will be a site in reasonable distance. If Hammersmith is participating in the trial, then that would be ideal- fingers crossed!
