News from Brazil!

Hi everyone!!

I had an appointment today and everything was ok. My counts are a little low (3.286 wbc and 86.250 plts. 13.59 Hb). but not that bad. My spleen isn't enlarged anymore neither my liver. cholesterol and liver enzimes are great, just my pressure was a little high, maybe because of the stress.I feel great and next month i'll have a BMA. fingers crossed!!

Thank you all!

That's great Lucas. I don't know about you, but my spleen was quite big at diagnosis. I didn't realise how big and uncomfortable it actually was until it shrank back down! - It's a great feeling because you can physically feel yourself getting better so you *know* the drugs are working.

Have you had a BMA already? Is this the first, or the second?

David.

Hi, david!

My spleen was huge - below my belly button!! I feel the same way as you: i can move better now! my only concern is about my platelets.

my first BMA is schedule to april 7th. fingers crossed!!

And you? how are you doing? hope all is fine!

cheerS!

Yes, I'm well. I am well, just recovering at home from a week in the hospital (surgery to correct a stomach / oesophagus problem) so watching a lot of daytime TV! Actually the surgery should help my TKI (dasatinib) be absorbed better, because the surgery allows me to stop taking omeprazole which was interfering with the TKI, so hopefully the TKI will work better and lower my PCR. That's the plan, anyway.

BMAs are a breeze. Some people really don't like them, but honestly I found it no problem at all. I've had 3 or 4 and I remember just talking about the weekends football match with the doctor all the time he was doing it. If you're relaxed, it makes it easy. The local anaesthetic takes the pain away, so it's just a bit of an unpleasant but not sore sensation.

David.

Oh, man! i hope you have some good tv shows in england :D

I have two friends who had BMAs and they told me the same thing as you said: it's not painful, it's "strange", "uncomfortable".

What team do you support? i watch premier league since 1998 and i always liked arsenal o/

Nearly 20 years on from my diagnosis and I've had a LOT of BMA's. They're not the most pleasant of experiences and given a choice I'd choose to go somewhere else but don't be overly worried.

Funny story: I was told before I had my first one that they were "uncomfortable and a bit like being kicked by a horse". Afterwards I asked my doctor if he'd never been anywhere remotely near a horse and then told him NEVER to say that again to anyone!

p.s. I'm a horse trainer. I own an equestrian centre. Believe me, it's nothing like being kicked by a horse! Not even comparable in terms of discomfort and certainly not even the pain of a passing glance of even a shetland pony!

Hi, darley!! I'm glad you're well after all these years!

I had a BMA on monday and it didn't hurt. actually, it was painless. Now i'm waiting for the results. fingers crossed!!
