Basil from South Africa - update

Hi all.

OK, so the time we all dread happened today for me.
Today was my 6 monthly visit to my Haematologist for my check up and of course to get the results of my last RT-QPCR test of two weeks ago.
Wait for it.
"BCR/ABL UNDETECTABLE"
I have now passed the 72 months mark (6 years) off Gleevec or any other TKI.
This is truly amazing and I can only say thanks to my Maker, Gleevec, the great DR Druker and his team and of course my Haematologist.
My only wish is that all CML patients can be inspired to achieve the same results given the right set of circumstances on their journey with CML.
What does sadden me is that the researchers have not yet worked out why so few candidates can stop taking TKI's and remain in TFR.
I have never been on a trial so unfortunately all the important information about my success is lost as there is no central data bank which accumulates vital information for research. And there are many cases around the world like mine that goes unrecorded .
Fortunately I have also never suffered from any side effects at all post Gleevec.
Kind regards and blessings to all our members.

Once again, great news Basil. I think Des is in the very same position- at least 6 years from stopping. Hopefully we will learn from the various stopping studies exactly why some can successfully stop treatment and others can't.
Best wishes for a continued long term TFR,
Sandy
