Pcr

Hi all,

i am worried as my pcr was < 0,01 for 3 years and now is still under that borderline but detectable. i am on 400 mg gleevec and my doctor told me if this will be the same after 2 months  he wants to have me on tasigna, i had an infection so was quit sick for a weekand got antibiotics i don't know if that can affect this test. He told i might be resistance on gleevec. I am not under control at a specialized hospital, i live in the netherlands. Hope you can help

hi, yalcos.

Let me see if i understand what you said: you had undetectable results for 3 years and you last result was detectable, but bellow the detection limit, isn't it? if that's the case, this is pretty normal. pcrs can bounce a little and you have to look for the trend and not for a particular result. unfortunately, many doctors don't know that and take wrong decisions. there are many factors that can change pcr's results: like a change in lab, poor sample, etc. etc.. try not to worry much and wait for the new result. good luck!

Hi lucas thank you for your message, to be clear i was for 2 years on 300mg glivec and all went well it was not detectable and after 2 years it was dubious they told me they can see it under the detection limit.  then my doctor told me to get on 400  mg glivec. I had 2 pcr tests and these 2 in a row were not detectable, now my latest from yesterday is again dubious under the detection limit but they see the leukemia. I am really worried

hey, yalcos, many here have variations in the PCR - like me. PCR test isn't that accurate and there's a margin of error of half log. I don't think you are losing response and, as i said, you have to look for the trend, and not for a particular result. good luck!!

Hi Lucas,

thanks for the advice i will wait for the next one.
