Worried about test

Categories:

Hi, I don't know if I am reposting this but I recently had a PCR test done and it was 0.03. I have been undetectable for many years now and have been on Gleevec since 2005. My doctor said not to worry but that is impossible. I am worried that the CML is getting worse. Does anyone have any advise.

If you take a look at this thread it's people who are on the DESTINY trial... that means in effect that they're all doing pretty well and well enough to consider coming off the drug.   You'll see that we're publishing our monthly results.  You'll also see that it's not unusual to have a slight blip.

Don't worry.

I am trying not to worry but being that it was undetectable for so long could it still go up like that all of a sudden. It has happened before also but it was about 2 years ago. Thanks by the way for trying to help through this.

I truly believe you shouldn't worry about 1 increased PCR result, trends count and are looked at. Even if it is not undetectable now the result is not far off MR4 which in anyone's eyes is excellent. Personally I have seen couple of bounces, they do happen. All the best.

Please be reassured by others advice of 'not to worry' about your latest PCR result. Even if you have been undetectable before- pcr testing is extremely sensitive to all sorts of factors, and it is very likely that you will see an undetectable result again. Your levels are extremely low and you are likely to hold that response as long as you keep taking your therapy as prescribed.

Best wishes,

Sandy

So what's making you worry?   What's different about your health since you knew you had this little blip?   Why have you chosen to worry about it?

As you said you've had something similar 2 years ago.  It didn't matter then and it doesn't matter now.

As we've all said little blips are quite normal and don't mean anything is happening that warrants worrying about.    You know that.  It happened before and when it happened to you before it went quickly back to "undectable".

Your little blip is still a terrifically good result.

It's all well and good us saying "don't worry, our experience and knowledge tells us there's nothing to worry about".   There's the fact.  I'm sure your doctor will have told you that and we've told you.  But never forget it's only you that can change how you feel and you can choose to change how you feel in a heartbeat.    You have to make a choice and make the decision to live by a different emotion.

I am new here, but I like that attitude-I always tell my twin sister, "control your emotions, don't let your emotions control you!"  This has gotten me through 52 years of living with a serious birth defect, requiring 19 major surgeries!  I know it's hard ---but it will be worth it!  best wishes!
