Disappointing blood test results

Hi there, appreciate your feedback and support. My husband just got his blood results back one month after reducing his dose of dasatinib from 100 to 50. Looks like the its had an immediate negative impact, unfortunately. His wbc is still normal but risen from 4 ( where it had sat for months to 7). The more worrying results are his platelet count has gone from 190 in Jan to 129  and the platelet morphology has gone from normal to showing a few large plt and rare giant plt. His neutrophils were already a bit low at 43 but are now lower at 35.

His WBC morphology has gone from normal to a few react lym . We are assuming this all means that his pcru will be rising and he needs to up his dose. But because of the low platelets and neutrophils do we need to worry about myelosuppression?

We see his doctor on Thursday. Should we try 70 or go straight back up to 100 and be more patient?

Thanks Louise

Louise:

I'd wait for the PCR before assuming it will be worse based on the CBC results.  While the CBC results you mention are different, they are not really all that worrisome. My wbc has bounced between 4 and 9 and my neutrophils have always been around 3 - 4 and platelets in the low 200's.

Finally, an incresed PCR should be verified by another test in 4 - 6 weeks to see if it's really a trend up.

I hate waiting for blood test results, so I understand the worry.  The fact that your husband was a candidate for dose reduction is a very good thing - hang onto that until you have all the results back - good luck

Thank you for the reply. I was most worried about the WBC and RBC morphology  no longer being listed as normal but showing signs of ovalcytes etc as it hasn’t shown this for last several tests.   Seeing doctor tomorrow so hopefully will get worries put to bed till next time :)
