CML - Gleevec - Renal Failure?

Categories:

Does anyone have any information on gleevec and any relation to renal failure?

I know it can affect creatinine ratio, which can be a false indicator of renal failure. However, if there is blood in the urine, I would think it is no longer a false indicator.

If anyone has any experience and wants to share, please feel free.

Hi Steve,

From what I have read about the impact of Gleevec/imatinib on the key organs of the body it seems that the drug is eventually  largely expelled through the faeces (often with a brown or orange colouring) and unlike some medications has a minimal impact on the renal system;it may of course have a substantial impact on the liver especially if there are prior issues there.

You do not say if you are on other medications because these drugs might have an impact on the kidneys especially if you become de- hydrated. You do not say if you are having blood in the urine -if you are then this might need other separate and immediate investigation and could be related to a urinary infection or issues with the prostate gland or other reasons.

I am not a medical professional and would suggest that you seek expert help if your symptoms warrant this.

With best wishes

John
