Stress about what can I eat

Hi there!
I am cml patient 3 and a half years now. I am on Sprycel and undetectable for almost 2.5 years!
I always avoid to eat grapefruit and every product that has grapefruit in it. From times to times I have stress about every thing I buy to eat from a store (barbeque sos, ketchup, chips, chocolate with strawberry flavor etc) or when I go to eat to a restaurant and I order a salad with a dressing in it because maybe has something that I must not eat.For example a barbeque sauce that I bought writes in the ingredients that includes herbs(that stressed me out very match)..... All this years the only thing I avoid is grapefruit and every thing goes perfect... I don't know if my fear is baseless or not.... What is your opinion about that?

You are getting far too worried. Yes, avoid grapefruit. But it's not as if eating a grapefruit flavoured piece of candy is going to cause a problem. If you accidentally eat a bite of it in a fruit salad it's not a big deal at all. Just eat around the rest of them.

We ought not to drink pomegranate juice either, but I am not going to get worried if there's a few pomegranate seeds in my salad.

Reading the ingredients in BBQ sauce is definitely way overkill. Absolutely no need for that.

David.

Thank you David for your response! I know that I am worried too match but sometimes is out of my controle... I am so close to try TFR and I do not won't to lose that... Thank you again!

Oops ... I have been eating grapefruit. I guess I didn't get the notice.

Seriously - the interaction between enzymes in grapefruit (and Seville oranges) is less of an issue with dasatinib (sprycel) than it is for longer lasting drugs such as nilotinib (tasigna). As long as you keep the time between them greater than six hours you will be fine. I have been doing this for YEARS. I'm still here.

Dasatinib has a half life around 6 hours in the blood. I tend to take my sprycel at night before bedtime giving me at least 8 hours before any potential grapefruit. Keep that in mind.

(I also know a patient that takes nilotinib and eats grapefruit with no issue. I suspect this warning occurred because one person in a clinical trial had issues - so on the warning label it goes.)

Loool Scuba! I know your story and your diet !I have read your posts!! Sometimes my fear is bigger than common sence... Thank you very match for your response! You both helped very match!!
