Hi my name is Anna I’m 37 I just got diagnosed with CML and I have been on sprycel 50 mg and I have been having bad headaches bones get tense is it normal to have these bad headaches

Hi Anna,

Sorry to hear of your diagnosis. The early days are very scary and rightfully so. You’ll have lots of questions and worries.

Yes what you are experiencing is normal. Especially so if you are new to taking TKI.

All TKI cause symptoms not everyone claims to get them, but I also say it depends on how self aware you are as a person. I suspect we all get them but some are more noticeable than others.

Best thing you can do right now is drink plenty fluids and rest. And ask stacks of questions on here if you need to.

You're going to be fine!

All the best

Alex

Hello Anna. The early days of treatment can be overwhelming. I believe headaches are a very common side effect to Dasatinib, but one that usually eases up after a few weeks. I had them early on when switched to Dasatinib and they are long gone. It is a good drug you are on. Best wishes.

It's interesting you were started on 50 mg dasatnib. The old standard was 100 mg which caused worse side effects in addition to headaches.

Your headaches will fade away as your body adjusts to the drug. If you respond with a quick and deep remission, you should consider lowering your dose even further to lessen side effects even more (including ones we don't feel). I am 'undetected' and take 20 mg dasatnib every other day.

Wednesday I will find out if the 50 mg is working so we will see
