Severe skin rash on Bosutinib

Categories:

Apologies all - another question re drugs. Having discontinued Imatinib after a month due to vomiting, moved to Dasatinib but that caused swelling of the face after one dose (!) onto Bosutinib. Had to build up dose slowly due to nausea but managed to get to 300mg successfully for 18 days then severe skin rash - blisters, crusting, pain across face next and on forearms. Dr has suggested a break for a few day but rash continues to spread so reluctant to resume just yet. On antihistamines.

Anyone  with experience of this who has gone on to successfully take this drug? I am fast running out of options (diagnosed in Nov 2020) so all feels a bit gloomy!

Victoria,

From what you describe, you may have shingles? If so this may be due to your level of stress/worry. Hope this resolves for you and you can continue with bosutinib

Sandy

Hi Victoria,

I have suggestion that from experience does give some relief.Rashes may be treated with steroids /cortisones but in terms of long term use lead to thinning of the skin and as a result are not a total solution.I have come across Hopes Relief Intensive Dry Skin Rescue which is suitable for treatment of various skin conditions and rashes;it is cortisone free and has main natural ingredients of calendula, manuka honey, aloe vera etc.It is made in Australia and is available worldwide;normally it is sold in health food shops but is available on Amazon. It is not cheap .

I have two conditions of irritation one is a very itchy scalp with dermatitis and may be an auto immune condition or a reaction to the tki: I sometimes  use a steroid lotion but often I find the Hopes shampoo ( a separate product from the cream) damps everything down.I get rashes on my face which are red, itchy and flaky and disfiguring-I use occasionally Betnovate cream  ( a steroid ) or I use the Hopes natural cream mentioned above and this helps a lot. You might  also use a magnesium oil spray but  basically is  like a brine but for some can be very soothing for skin conditions -again it might be worth a try;I get mine on Amazon.

The steroid creams/lotions usually are on prescription but the other remedies I mention are not.

I hope that this helps.

John

I have yet to see anything that reduces, or eliminates side-effects, better than simply lowering TKI dosage if your TKI is working for you and will continue to work at the lower dosage.

Thanks Sandy

I thought that too but now liver enzymes are playing up so I have been taken off the drug! Have been referred to the Hammersmith so hoping for a steer! Not easy all this is it!!

Thank you John

I will get a stock of the cream you recommend - it has been 10 days and counting with this awful rash!!

victoria

Thanks Buzz

all a bit trial and error to begin with isn’t it!

Hi, I realise you posted a year ago but i wanted to ask whether you found something to help with the side effects of Bosutinib. I have just discontinued Bosutinib because of swelling of face, especially under eyes and also painful blisters but I cannot seem to tolerate anything other than Aveeno cream. This is now my 4th TKI which I have had to discontinue. Also awaiting results of a skin biopsy.

:(

Hi, how grim for you.

no I had to come off it as it was really toxic for me. I tried Dasatinib and that made whole face swell so  eventually went back on to Imatinib and seem to be doing ok on 300mg daily.

I really do hope you find something that you can tolerate. It’s such a nuisance isn’t it. ❤️

Thank you so much for getting back to me - I was diagnosed nearly 4 years ago and whilst my numbers are very good - I am at zero, the side effects have been intolerable. I have been off Bosutinib for 5 weeks and my face is still swollen and blistered! But hopeful I will find something ❤️

Good news about the numbers - I’m almost there. I found the side effects hideous and felt bad for complaining about it! Mad isn’t it. You’ll get there though. There’s a fantastic specialist at the Hammersmith- Jane Applepy or something like that. If you don’t improve maybe ask for a referral.

I hope it all works out for you.
