Hi everyone,
Can someone share your experience of covid vaccine as patient taking dasatinib? Ideally, can you tell your age and the vaccine brand.
I might be able to take the shot, but not sure if worth going.
Thank you.

Hi Steven,
You dont say which country you in as that might affect the range of vaccines on offer. If you are in the UK then you would be offered either the Pfizer one or the Astra Zenica vaccine;although the Moderna vaccine is being used in some parts of the country. Many of us on Forum and from the UK would have had a vaccine possibly based on their age band and/or status as being extremely vulnerable in a clinical sense.
In terms of the science I am not aware of any data that relates to age, type of tki being taken and relation to a particular vaccine .My view is to be always guided by suggestions of medical specialists and mine for instance has suggested that it is very doubtful if CML the condition or the treatment by tki makes us in any way immune depressed. My view is that a tki which is targeted molecular therapy is a whole different world from some forms of chemotherapy for cancer /blood cancers in general and possibly we are in somewhat enhanced position.I though see the benefits of vaccination as the proven efficacy at high rates from trials and also other follow up studies such as from Israel -all indications are that one would be protected from the severity of any Covid infection and also the likelihood of hospitalisation and death from Covid is highly reduced.
At the vaccination centre you might be screened on whether you are on blood thinners such as warfarin or heparin (unlikely for a CML patient) and in addition whether you have any allergies that might need to be taken into account .
With best wishes
John
Thank you John. I really appreciate your sharing.
I am in Canada where the vaccine roll out is slower than UK. The general priority here is also given to senior cohorts. then younger ones subsequently. For particular reason, I am eligible to get the shot sooner even in late 30s. I learned from the forum that most of CML patient got the shot in UK are well tolerated. Just not sure their age and what TKIs they are taking. And do you need to disclose your CML history when screening.
Of course I may consult my specialist before taking the shot. Still I am a little bit concerned about the recent blood clot incident related to Astra Zenica one. Hope to learn more from you guys.
Best wishes from the big white cold.
