Supplements While On Imatinib

Hi All,

I’ve been diagnosed with CML since Nov 2017 and been on Imatinib 400mg from beginning until now...

PCR results as follows:

April ‘18- 1.17%
Oct’18 - 0.43%
April’19 - 0.32%
Oct’19- 0.23%
April’20- 0.13%
Oct’20 - 0.09%

My regular supplements since started Imatinib in Dec’17 is folic acid. On top of that I take vitamin C regularly.

Back in Jan’21, I started supplementing with 1000iu vitamin D after discovering low vitamin D levels during medical check up. Vitamin D is generally metabolized also by CYP3A4.

Also added in supplement of “astaxanthin + virgin coconut oil” to help improve my dry eye & pre glaucoma condition.

this week, I started developing some deep leg pain and last month my blood test results for my WBC increased to 4.5, while my usual WBC was around 3.x range...

ive been reading about how astaxanthin acts as an anti oxidant to help improve my eye condition. However, it seems to be a CYP3A4 inducer.

Understand that we should avoid any CYP3A4 inducers (st John wort) & CYP3A4 inhibitors (grapefruit)...

im rather confused if I am allowed to take supplements that could have play the role as CYP3A4 inhibitors/ inducers? Or totally avoid them?

please help if anyone can explain... my hematologist has no comment on this...

Thanks in advance🙏🏻
