Realized I replied to myself. whoops..

I have been on Dasatinib for 10 days and have had only mild side effects.  The doctor said I could still have side effects manifest for another month or so. Should I expect to begin to feel worse the longer I take this TKI in the beginning?  My WBC had come down some and metabolic panels are good for now.

Thanks,

Jb

Hi there

I was diagnosed 18 months ago… started on 100mg dasatinib, which knocked me on my butt for several weeks with terrible headaches, fatigue, dizziness etc.  Those side effects greatly improved over the course of the first 1-2 months but then immunosuppression kicked in.  I didn’t feel worse but my WBC, neutrophils plummeted.  I was eventually reduced to 50mg after about a one month drug break to help with immunosuppression and I have had no side effects that I can feel on 50mg.  I’ve been on 50mg for a year now and some days forget that I have CML.   That’s just my experience though which is limited, and I am assuming over time with continued exposure other issues can pop up.  I had weekly blood work for the first 6 months, then biweekly, now every three weeks.  PCR test is done every 3 months.  Hope that helps some.  I think there are side effects we can feel and others we can’t.  I don’t feel an impact from low phosphorous or low neutrophils but that’s is the reality for me and that comes and goes.

Best,

Renee

Hi JB,

Some appear in the early days and others appear somewhere down the line. I think being 3 years in now myself I would have thought most would have reared their heads but I do defo have new ones popping up for instance I can no longer run more than 10 mins as I get shin pain in the lower legs around the shin and calf area they feel full of blood is the best way to describe it and its everytime I try to run now. I am on Tasigna which of all TKIs I am told its the worst for your body. But I rather than that the alternative for now. Another example numb finger tips on the right hand and blurred vision from time to time about 6 months in was another unwelome change.

I have said this before but it also depends on how self aware you are as a person, I notice any tiny change in my body and I am defo hypersensitive as a person. You may notice them and you may well not. But I will say all so far are manageable and you live with it.

Al

Thanks for the the responses.  Just really new to this.  Doctor has been helpful but I always have more questions than he has time to answer.
So, Thanks again

Jb
