PCR TEST FROM NHS

Categories:

Hello ,hope you are all ok .I have just had a letter from the NHS about new treatments for Covid .They say my medical records show I might be suitable for these treatments. They are going to send me a PCR test so if I have symptoms and test positive I can contact them and receive these new drugs which must be taken quickly.I am very impressed and thankful for our brilliant NHS. Anybody else received this letter ? Regards Denise.

Sounds like you are one of the lucky ones. I haven't had a letter yet and i understand from twitter that if we don't hear by 10th January we need to call 119.  Alot of people are waiting to hear so hopefully it wont be long.

The idea is that we have a pcr test kit at home and it we use it and test positive we should be automatically be contacted with the offer of antibodies or antivirals.  Seems like a great idea if it actually works.

This is an important posting, Denise. Thank you. Who sent you the letter? I know it is NHS but exactly where did it come from?

Hi Nimbus, heading on the letter says.  NHS ENGLAND AND NHS IMPROVEMENT, SKIPTON HOUSE 80 LONDON ROAD LONDON SE1 6LH. FROM PROFESSOR STEPHEN POWIS .Cheers ,Denise.

Many thanks, Denise. Given all the trouble that I had getting the third dose, I am surprised that I too have receive the NHS letter during the last few minutes. This is encouraging.  Happy Christmas, Stephen

Hi  ,lets just hope we never need to use it 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻.keep well, keep safe ,have a lovely Christmas and a Happy Healthy New Year .Denise.

I'll be interested to see if I get this letter.

I have just discovered that once again the fact that my GP is in Wales and my consultant is in England has caused the NHS confusion. I did not get invited to get 3rd primary vaccination, but had a booster at the end of October. It was the Health Boards in Wales who marked the records as to who should get a 3rd dose, and I was not included. The GP team have just amended my record to say my booster (at end October) was my 3rd dose and I should get called a for a booster at the end of January.

This additional medication for those who are unfortunate enough to test positive is apparently only released for England and not Wales at the moment. I'll bet that I don't get that despite my consultant being in England!

Hi Alastair ,I have just this minute had an email from the NHS saying exactly the same as the letter I received.Hopefully if you don't get the letter you may get an email .Heres hoping everyone gets one or the other soon, Regards ,Denise.

I also have my email but do be aware as mine ended up in my junk folder.  May be a good to check there if you don't have it. Looks like most people got it today.

Hi Christine, no nothing in my junk mail but thanks for the thought.

Can you confirm that this letter is about Sotrovimab as detailed in this BBC article. The news report I heard said it was only being made available in England, but this report says all UK.

Thanks

Alastair,

The email is vague. Not purposefully because 99%+ of people won’t know / care about the name of the medication, but just talks about “new treatments”.

The NHS is using new treatments for coronavirus. Your medical records show that you might be suitable for these treatments if a PCR test confirms that you have coronavirus.

These treatments need to be given quickly after you start to feel unwell. They can stop you from getting seriously ill. More information: https://www.nhs.uk/CoronavirusTreatments

David.

I received my email today. The email concentrates mainly on the procedure to follow regards the PCR test and what will happen after a positive test. But there is a link in there that takes you to the NHS treatments for coronavirus and lists Sotrovimab and Molnupiravir.

I am on Dasatinib and am I correct in thinking that some anti viral drugs are contraindicated with Dasatinib and possibly other TKI's ?

Hi Alistair .

Blood Cancer UK say it cover Sotrovimab, molnupiravir and Ronapreve.  I understand they are antivirals and mono clonal antibodies.  Sorry if any of that is spelt wrong.

I have also received email and PCR test but unless I have misread it the Blood Cancer UK info on anitvirals etc suggests that CML patients are not yet eligible for those treatments (I forget names) presumably we can still send off PCR test and get advice but may not be given the drugs or have I misunderstood?
