hi all i suffer with a few side effects from immatinib including cramp in my limbs .However recently i have been experiencing more painful cramps including cramps in my feet with toes locked in positions. Is there anybody suffering from similar and if yes do you have any pain relieving suggestions please.

Thanking you in advance

Hi Vonnie ,I had exactly the same ,really bad cramp in my toes on Imatinib.I started on Magnesium Citrate ,one before bed because they help you relax and sleep , and they worked like magic .Never had cramps since .i get mine from Nu u Nutrition if you are in the Uk ,good luck , Denise.

thank you very much for your reply i shall be getting some of that in the morning

300mg - 400 mg daily magnesium

You may have difficulty with citrate and oxidate versions of magnesium, if so switch to chelated magnesium. I use mg glycinate. Brilliant for cramps and sleep quality

This is interesting as I have also started to have cramps, even in my side. Been on 400mg of Imatinib since diagnosis in August. Just wondered what I should think about in deciding whether to go for citrate or glycinate? Or does it matter?

Hi, think Citrate is more easily absorbed .Everybody is different how they react to anything  ,I have never had a problem with Citrate .In some people it may cause loose stools ,it can help if you suffer with constipation. It has never had this effect on me .Best google both then choose .

I had always suffered from cramps over the decades prior to my CML diagnosis, particularly at night or during the day when exercising. Imatinib made things worse by many orders of magnitude. I could not do anything to get relief. Then imatinib was swapped out for dasatinib. The very day that I stopped taking imatinib, I never had cramps again.

The really staggering thing is that even my pre-CML type cramps disappeared. In this respect, I am completely cured of cramps.

Definitely doesn't matter. Citrate and oxidate versions tend to less expensive and can cause digestive issues. Start on the cheaper ones first...why not?

Chelated magnesium tends to be glycinate, and for heart health some other versions ( taurate?) Can be more effective but we assume it's for cramps and not heart health.

Light weight lifting is also great for tki related cramps although in the short term it will increase cramping but stick with it! And i advise using weight machines and not free weights for safety, in case you get cramp starting at an awkward time

Hi to all of you that replied to my post going to have a chat with chemist and see which they recommend

so lots of thanks to you all

Hello Vonnie

I managed to reduce the severe cramp initially by taking magnesium but more important for me it was the inclusion of lots more cruciferous greens and not consuming high GI foods and drink inc fruits and juice.  Low pottasium is also a cause of cramps along with calcium.  It’s also very important to keep yourself full body active and mobile as exercise is vitally important to maintain your vascular system

hope you get some relief from it!🤞

Side note: my calcium levels were completely bonkers for a couple of years after dx (they were high)
