Miss dose

Hi guys, hope you all are doing great!

I just want to ask something … Yesterday i forgot to take my pill … i remembered at 1 am that i had to take it, so i took it at that time  (1am) and then i vomited it, i think it was because my stomach was empty … So technically I missed one dose. I am worried if this is going to affect my lab test results in my next week control. I feel anxious and worried about this.

Thank you all!

Hi. You don't say which of the CML meds you are taking, or what your latest BCR-ABL result is - would be useful to know

The guidance for imatinib is that if you miss a dose you should take it if you remember within 6 hours. If not leave it and take it at the normal time next day. Missing one day is unlikely to have a major effect on BCR-ABL.

You should have an information leaflet in your tablet box that should show what to do if you miss a dose. If you don't then you should be able to find the leaflet online.

Most of the TKIs act in a accumulative way so they build up in the system and one missed dose doesn't make much difference. In most cases it is best to miss the tablet rather than take it late and mess up the timing for the next one.  This may depend on where you are in the time line of the cml and others may have different opinions if they know more about the drug you are taking.

Hi Alastair and Christine,

Thank you both for your answers. I take Imatinib 400 mg per day, my last bcr abl was ok but i had a little increased result if i compared with my previous one but i am still within the desired response. The doctor said that i have to wait till next control to check if imatinib is working properly (it will be in a couple of weeks)…  I used to take my pill around 9 pm but that day i forgot and i took it at 1am and then i vomited it, due to my next control is soon and i missed that dose i’ve been worried about it.

Thank you!
