Always thought ibroprofen was a no no,
so wondering what ones are considered safe (over the counter) anti inflammatorys.
I have never been told ibuprofen was a no no on imatinib. Indeed I was told I could take it, and paracetamol (not an anti inflammatory of course) also ok - some have been told not to take that…
Ibuprofen is harsh on the stomach, as is imatinib. So I always took it after some food, and not at the same time as imatinib.
paracetemol is metabolised in the liver - as is imatinib. However, it’s still ok so long as not taken for too long and your liver function results are ok.
This is my understanding based on discussion with CML consultants over the years. I can see why people are told not to take x or y but the answer is not that simple..
I would also like to know the answer as i was told no ibuprofen. As i am now on asprin this is even more of a no no. I mentioned my gp had prescribed high strength ibuprofen gel to my haematologist and she told me that was also a no no.
I think short term use of most over the counter pain killers are fine but long term use is not allowed due to deaths in the past. I was told these were extreme cases but had to be considered. I was recently given a prescription for co-codamol when i had a problem but again short term use only.
If anyone has any recommendation then i would be grateful. I already tax turmeric and magnesium which help but I still have pains at times.
I was on Imatinib for over 10 years. Probably over half of that time I had elevated inflammation usually in my lower back. While I usually just lived with it taking nothing on a regular basis I did take naproxen early on for flare ups. Later my PCP advised me to take celebrex because it is less taxing on the heart. I take it sparingly to this day. I try to take as little medication as possible as these TKIs take their toll on our bodies.
