Spring 2023 booster jab for Covid in UK

Categories:

Hi All ,
Has anyone else been contacted via their NHS app re the need to go for the spring top up based on being over 75 or possibly imuno- suppressed (all blood cancers are in this category).
I have had 5 previous jabs, all Pfize,r but last November I did contract Covid even after all of these vaccines -it was relatively mild except a pretty nasty cough lasted for 7 weeks or so afterwards;the symptoms returned in March and are still with me .Xrays and a CT scan show little except I have been told if you have severe breathing issues then seek assistance .The pharmacist says that I must wait until the immune system fights it off.
A new variant of Covid has been found in India of some concern that gives a severe cough etc and itching (which I have).
So I guess that having the Covid jabs will not prevent us having Covid or any of the respiratory viruses going around but it might prevent and help against hospitalisation or worse?
My vitamin D level is good but 16 years of imatinib might have left poor immunity against certain viruses.
Best wishes
John

Yes John,
I too have been contacted to have my covid booster next Sunday. I have been very lucky avoiding covid so far. I even went to a family wedding where 80% of those attending got covid. Fast approaching my 18 month cell count. So I would like to stay lucky.
Hope your symptoms improve. Also, haven't you been offered anti-viral treatment?
Regards
Alan

My GP was in touch and advised me to get a spring booster, which is booked for next week.

A cough can persist months after all viral infection has cleared, and I can’t imagine that on its own is a reason to hold off taking a booster.

David.

I am having my booster at noon tomorrow. I have not received a letter, but the NHS system accepts my booking. I can evidence leukaemia with the last hospital letter or (as the NHS suggests) with evidence of medication. I caught COVID at Christmas. The symptoms were mild, but I had a cough for six weeks.

Today, those over 75 were getting the Sanofi jab. I am 67, so I was singled out for Pfizer.

That’s the one with the adjuvant, isn’t it? I have no idea at all how they work, but I suppose it must be a bit like the flu vaccine where the adjuvanted version is reserved for the older population.

I have mine booked in for Tuesday. At this rate, I’ll end up with the “grand slam” and just need a Sputnik to complete the set!!

David.

I was reminded on the CML UK FB site and booked online for the nearest centre. I am having it tomorrow and will take a hospital letter stating I have CML and see what they do. It has worked with earlier jabs - this will be my 7th.
Best to all
Chrissie

I was pretty knocked about by Monday's Pfizer jab: wide-spread muscle aches and last night a mild fever.
