Could Scemblix think coffee is water?

Hi, everybody. Starting Scemblix and I'm having a devil of a time figuring out when I can fit the fasting part in my day. I started out taking it at bedtime, but sometimes we eat dinner late and also I'm loath to give up my sometime popcorn while streaming lol. Also, I often feel like my stomach isn't really empty by 10 or 11 pm. Should be, but it doesn't feel like it. So - I could take it first thing in the AM, but I can barely walk without coffee, and certainly the NY Times and Washington Post are almost unbearable without coffee. I read online (yes, I know, not reliable) that a glass of water is OK to take with Scemblic, so my question is, could I just make that a mug of black coffee instead? What say y'all?

You absolutely can!

The main thing is steering clear of calorific content. So a black coffee is absolutely fine with asciminib (I’ve had this confirmed with a specialist CML pharmacist in the UK). Water is A-OK too and that’s in the patient leaflet in the box.

It’s also worth remembering that if you do eat some food in the fasting window, or have a coffee with milk this stops asciminib from working as well, which overall is a better thing than what it does to nilotinib and makes it work too well and you take an effectively larger dose than intended.

I have a black coffee every morning after taking my asciminib and have been undetectable (>100,000 assays) for a year now. My routine goes: 1) wake up and take pills right away, 2) get kids up and to school, 3) by the time that’s done I can get home, have my breakfast in peace and take the dog for a walk!

David.

Thanks so much, David! I will pitch it again to my onc. This gives me some ammo. You may remember (or not!) I was a long ago emigre from the US LLS site, when they redesigned their site to be user-unfriendly, and this forum has been my stalwart go-to ever since. Thanks for being so steady at the tiller!
