Scemblix advice please

Hi everyone, a while since i posted, but ive learned so much from this brilliant site.
I've just been prescribed Asciminib which i know is relatively new in the UK, and i note the difference in how and when to take it, having been on Bosutinib until recently.
Anybody got any advice or observations please. It would seem obvious to take the 2 tablets at night , i eat mainly at lunchtime, and im assuming no food before and after taking includes water, tea and coffee?
Im not really anywhere near where my Consultant wants me to be, so im hoping for great things, i would just be interested in any success stories out there.
Best wishes, Amanda.

Hi Amanda,

It's really about what works best for your routine as you need to take it at approximately the same time each day.

So for the fasting, it's about avoiding things with calorific value. So water is absolutely fine. You are also OK to take black coffee or tea - no milk. In theory a Diet Coke would be fine too.

For me, the easiest routine is to take it as soon as I wake up. That means I have done the 2 hours fasting in my sleep. Then I have a black coffee, and by the time I have the kids ready for school the hour has passed so I really don't notice it at all.

Important to note that it is different from nilotinib. If you eat with nilotinib it increases your exposure to the drug, effectively an overdose. With asciminib it's the other way around ... if you eat with it, the drug doesn't work so well.

David.

Thanks very much David, and for your prompt reply, its easy reading the instructions, but now i understand why! I didnt know it was calorific stuff.
I've got to have some surgery, hopefully soon, so when i restart the meds i will follow your lead and take them in the morning. Obvious really, im just panicking!
Regards, Amanda
